What is the Autoimmune Protocol

The Autoimmune Protocol (also known as “Autoimmune Paleo” is a science-based elimination and reintroduction diet and lifestyle protocol. It focuses on repairing gut health, balancing hormones, and regulating the immune system through real food.

The dietary component includes removing food-driven sources of inflammation and restoring nutrient density, while the lifestyle component includes approaches to sleep, stress management, movement, and connection (both with humans and nature), in order to help best manage autoimmune disease. It has been used successfully alone or in combination with conventional treatments, depending on a person’s needs, and has even been the focus of medical research.

Why I became a Certified Autoimmune Paleo Coach

I’ve been living with Hashimotos Thyroiditis for my entire adult life. After following conventional medicine and prescription drugs, my disease continued to progress and my symptoms worsen. I hit my own physical rock bottom in 2015 and was finally convinced that another path was not only possible, but it was a necessity if I want to be able to live my life as a mother, wife, and daughter.

I discovered the Autoimmune Protocol, and within days of implementing diet and lifestyle changes I was finding relief of symptoms. I lost more than 20 pounds of inflammation within 6 weeks, and experienced complete relief from my chronic symptoms within months. You can read more about my story here. I have now been living well, and off all medications, thanks to this lifestyle.

This drastic change in my life sparked a passion, and a new career, for nutritional therapy. Now, I strive to support the autoimmune community as a Certified Autoimmune Paleo Coach, empowering others living with autoimmune disease to discover the root cause of their symptoms, and find comfort in becoming their own self advocate for their health care plan.

Who can benefit from working with an AIP Coach

Autoimmune disease affects over 50 million Americans and this number is on the rise.  Some studies estimate that women make up 75% of this population. This makes it very likely that you yourself or someone you are close to experiences some form of autoimmune disease [1].

There are 140 different autoimmune diseases identified to date, including common ones like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, endometriosis, ulcerative colitis, Hashimotos thyroiditis, type 1 diabetes, Crohn’s disease and fibromyalgia. You may not “fit in” to one of these disease categories but might experience common symptoms of system wide inflammation such as fatigue, chronic low-grade fever, brain fog or inability to focus. Having an overall feeling of malaise (feeling sick and tired), depression and anxiety, joint pain and rashes can also be common symptoms of an underlying autoimmune disease.

Implementing the AIP can be done alone, believe me, I had to do it that way. But it was a long drawn out process that was often overwhelming, and full of troubleshooting. I became an NTP and a Certified Autoimmune Paleo Coach specifically so that I could support others through this process. I provide you with the services that I wish I would have had. Because let’s face it, the sooner we can get to feeling better, and living “normal” lives with our loved ones, the better!
