Anti-inflammatory Smoothie

Last week, the cold and flu season took it's toll on our house. My oldest son (7) ended up with a viral infection affecting his larynx and he was in so much pain. He couldn't talk or swallow or cough without being in tears. The doctor recommended lots of ice water to cool the esophagus, and ibuprofen to help with inflammation. I made sure he had a ton of water, but ibuprofen was only offered at night because I wanted to give his body the opportunity to heal itself. The human body and the immune system are truly amazing.

To help boost his immune system, and offer relief, I mixed up this delicious anti-inflammatory smoothie. A great go-to for anyone fighting this nasty cold and flu season, or needing help with general inflammation relief. The cinnamon and ginger were subtle, but are my new favorite ingredients for smoothies. Seriously, so good.

RECIPE: Anti-Inflammatory Smoothie

Ingredients:
2 TBSP collagen powder
1/4 cup organic orange juice
2 cups spinach
1 frozen banana
1 cup frozen organic berries
1/2 avocado
1/2 TBSP ginger paste
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 TBSP local honey
1/2 cup almond milk

Instructions:

Start by blending the collagen with orange juice until frothy, then add the spinach and mix again. Follow with berries, banana, avocado, ginger, cinnamon, honey, and almond milk until well mixed. If you are using fresh ingredients, rather than frozen, then you can add a cup of ice to help cool it down if you're looking for that cool sensation on a sore throat. Enjoy and be well!

Feel free to substitute coconut milk for the almond, or your favorite non-dairy milk of choice.
