What a Difference a Decade Makes

Celebrating 10 years of living with my Autoimmune Disease. Yup, celebrating!

I’m not usually a big fan of new year resolutions, or waiting until Jan 1st to start new habits. But there is something about closing out a decade that encourages some reflection… especially if it marks 10 years since being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease.

To say that it has been life-changing is a total understatement, but when we keep walking (or sprinting) through life, it’s often easy to forget just how far we’ve actually come.

After years of searching for answers, I was diagnosed with Hashimotos in October of 2009. Since then I felt better, then a LOT worse, and then better again on a vicious cycle of learning the balance of living with an autoimmune disease. You know my story, so I won’t dive into the details, but it’s still crazy for me to think about the last four years in this decade.

Once I found the Autoimmune Protocol and turned my disease into something I could thrive with, rather than be buried by, my life has completely changed trajectory.

Since AIP, I’ve changed careers, built a practice, earned two more certifications, and have now opened an office space in my town. If you would have told me that 10 years ago, let alone 5 years ago I would have laughed and said “I’m sorry, you have the wrong person”.

I am now more motivated than ever to think about the new year, and new DECADE, resolutions. A lot can happen in a year, and I’m not about to stop dreaming about empowering others to gain control of their own lives.

What are you dreaming about?

I joined an accountability group to start the new year off with a supportive group of women. They shared this quote that stopped me in my tracks, while simultaneously jumpstarting my momentum.

“What you aren’t changing, you are choosing!”

Are you wanting to dive into 2020 with reflection and direction? Here are some tools I’m using for goal tracking in the new year:

Cheers to 2020 and to all of you. Whether you’re embarking on new health goals, financial goals, or career goals, or just taking the year one day at a time… you’ve totally got this.

Happy New Year,

Carly
